IEC 61966-3:2000 pdf free download – Multimedia systems and equipment – Colour measurement and management
1Scope
This part of lEC 61966 deals with equipment using cathode ray tubes (CRT) to display colourimages for use in multimedia applications.
A series of methods and parameters for colour measurements and management for use inmultimedia systems and equipment is applicable to the assessment of colour reproduction.Themethods of measurement standardized in this part are designed to make possible the objectiveperformance assessment and characterization of colour reproduction of CRT displays whichaccept red – green – blue analogue or digital signals from electrical input terminals and outputcolour images on CRT display screens. For CRT displays to which analogue signals areapplicable, corresponding digital signals shall be taken into account in applying this part ofIEC 61966. The measured results are intended to be used for the purpose of colourmanagement in multimedia systems.
This part of lEC 61966 defines input test signals, measurement conditions and methods ofmeasurement, so as to make possible the colour management and comprehensive comparisonof the results of measurements.
Colour control within equipment is outside the scope of this part of lEC 61966. It does notspecify limiting values for various parameters.

5.1 Environmental conditions
All measurements specified in this standard shall be carried out in an area free from significantelectromagnetic fields. All the measurements in this standard, except those in clause 13, shallbe performed in a dark room environment. Particular attention should be paid to preventingreflected illumination caused by the ambient objects (desktop, wall, etc.) and direct illuminationfrom light-emitting indicators of measuring instruments.
One hour of warm-up time should precede the measurements in 7.2,9.2,10.2,11.2 and 14.2,unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer of the equipment.
The mains voltage and frequency should be at the rated value specified by the manufacturer ofa CRT display. When the mains voltage fluctuates, a regulated power supply shall be used tomaintain the supply voltage to within 5 % of the rated value.
Other environmental conditions such as room temperature and relative humidity shall bereported together with the results of the measurements.
lf additional environmental conditions are described in the manufacturer’s specifications, theseshould be taken into account.
5.2Conditions of measurements
a) Contrast, brightness and additional adjustments shall be set to the positions specified by
the manufacturer of the CRT display under measurement. When the adjustment is not inline with the manufacturer’s specification, the actual position or corresponding value shallbe reported with the results of the measurements.
b)Equipment arrangement for non-contact measurements shall be as shown in Figure 1.This
arrangement incorporates a spectroradiometer or a non-contact colorimeter, depending onthe characteristics to be measured. The instrument optical axis shall be normal to thecentre of the surface of the CRT display. The distance d shall be 4h or greater.
NOTE lt is recommended to take precautions so that the measurement is not influenced by vibration and nopicture elements are missing within the field of view of the measuring instrument.
