notebook computer: (A) A computer designed specifically for portability and to be operated for extendedperiods of time both with and without a direct connection to an ac mains power source. It includes anintegrated display, a non-detachable,mechanical keyboard (using physical, moveable keys), and pointingdevice. (B) Mobile thin client: A computer meeting the definition of a Thin Client, designed specifically forportability，and meeting (A). (C)Two-in-one notebook: A computer which resembles a traditionalnotebook computer with a clam shell form factor (A), but has a detachable display which can act as anindependent Slate/Tablet when disconnected.The keyboard and display portions of the product must beshipped as an integrated unit.
NOTE 1—Notebook computers are typically designed to provide similar functionality to desktops, including operationof software similar in functionality as that used in desktops. For purposes of this standard, notcbook computers includecmodels with touch-sensitive screens.
NOTE 2—lt is recognized that this definition is intended to include the same set of products as included undernotebook computer in the ENERGY STAR computer specification. Due to a circular reference and other considerationsin the ENERGY STAR computer specification, the definition has been modified for use in this standard.
on average: As used in the phrase “product shall contain on average,” a calculation of the percentage of adesired material (e.g., recycled or bio-based plastic) in the total weight of like material (e.g., all plastic)within each unit for a product.
optical component: An individual part or combination of parts that are used in the creation, transmission,manipulation, or detection of light.
NOTE—Examples include lasers, light sources, optoelectronics, fiber optics, lenses, polarizers, mirrors, beam splitters,windows, and prisms.
packaging: All materials of any nature to be used for the containment, protection, handling, delivery andpresentation of products from the manufacturer to the user or the consumer.
NOTE—This standard only applies to sales packaging or primary packaging, i.e., packaging that contains and protectsand is designed to deliver a sales unit to the final user or consumer. This excludes secondary and tertiary packaging asdefined by the EU packaging [Directive] definition.The following items are excluded: accessory carrying cases,printed materials such as user guides and safety or warranty information, and packaging of printed material.
plastic: A material that contains, as an essential ingredient, one or more organic polymeric substances oflarge molecular weight, is solid in its finished state, and, at some stage in its manufacture or processing intofinished articles,can be shaped by flow.
