6.4.1 This test shall be made with the power off after the door has completed 4,000 cycles of the Cycle Test.
6.4.2 Setup: Draw a line on the floor perpendicular to the door in its closed position and 30 in (762 mm) from the door’s pivot center. Draw two lines across the first line 1/2 in (12.7 mm) and 3 in (76 mm) from the face of the door (in the closed position) in the direction of the door opening. Open speed regulating valve(s). In closers with adjustable spring power, set closing force to the closest increment equal to or greater than 5 lbf (22 N).
6.4.3 Test: Open the door beyond the 3 in (76 mm) line drawn on the floor. Holding the door open with a force gauge allow the door to close slowly under the power of the door closer as the door travels between the 3 in (76 mm) and 1/2 in (12.7 mm) marks and record the force. It shall equal or exceed a 5 lbf (22 N).
6.4.4 Requiremnents of 6.4.2 and 6.4.3 are permitted to be waived provided the closing mechanism is capable of being field-adjusted to allow latching of doors. After adjustment, the closing force produced by the door in motion shall exceed a 5 lbf (22 N) when measured at the latch edge of the door. Instructions packed with the door closing hardware shall state that the closer shall be adjusted to assure closing and latching of the door.
6.5 Door Closer Efficiency Test
6.5.1 This test shall be made with the power off after the door has completed 4,000 cycles of the Cycle Test. 6.5.2 Setup: Draw a line on the floor perpendicular to the door in its closed position and 30 in (762 mm) from the pivot center of the door. Draw a line across the first line 4 in (102 mm) from the face of the door (in the closed position) in the direction of the door opening. For this test also use the 2 in (51 mm) mark established in 6.3.1 and the 3 in (76 mm) established in 6.4.2. Fully open the latch and general speed regulating valves.
6.6 Force Test: This test shall be made before the Cycle Test and at the completion of the Cycle Test. The force required to release the door manually shall not exceed a 40 lbf (178 N) when measured 30 in (762 mm) from the hinge centerline (5.2). The holding mechanism shall be energized at the rated power. The door shall be equipped with a size 4 door closer and held open at the 90 degree position.
6.7 Creep Test: This test shall be made before the Cycle Test and at the completion of the Cycle Test. With the holding mechanism energized, open the door to the 90 degree hold-open position and scribe a mark on the floor measured at 30 in (762 mm) from the pivot point along the door edge. After 24 hours, the door shall not have moved more than 1/2 in (12.7 mm) or for free swinging models arm movement shall not have occurred to cause more than the specified door movement.
