11 Marking
Each coupler shall be marked. This shall be by impressing or embossing a mark on the flap or the body of the coupler and shall be legible after the protective coating has been applied. The height of the characters shall be at least 4,0 mm and their depth shall be at least 0,2 mm.
Couplers shall be marked with the following information in the sequence given:
— reference to EN 74;
— registered trademark of the manufacturer;
— year of manufacture (at least two last digits);
— coupler class: only for half couplers (HT) and (HW);
— type of coupler: only for reduction couplers (RR) and (RS) with the diameter in mm of the tube which is different from 48,3 mm;
— level of ongoing production inspection if provided (see Annex A).
Marking should be preferably in one or two lines.
EXAMPLE
EN 74 XX 08 RR 60 M
This example represents a reduction coupler 60,3/48,3 mm made in a factory produced by ,XX” during 2008
with inspection level M.
12 Test report
The test report shall conform to the requirements specified in EN 12811-3.
13 Assessment
The assessment shall be carried out by a person or organization different from the original designing person or organization.
When it is shown that all evaluated values conform to those specified in this standard, a statement shall be made to this effect.
NOTE Requirements for assessment vary between countries.
14 Product Manual
The manufacturer of a coupler shall produce a set of instructions forming the product manual. This manual shall comprise at least the following:
a) description and a drawing from which the coupler can be identified;
b) indication of the coupler type and class where classified;
c) identity of the assessor;
d) instructions for using and fixing the coupler such as:
1) a list of the types of permissible tubes in accordance with the relevant standards including at least the following:
— diameter;
— yield stress;
— thickness; material;
2) for screw couplers: the tightening torque;
3) for wedge couplers: the weight of the hammer for tightening until the jarring blow is felt;
4) for weldable half couplers (HW): the required characteristics of welding of the connection to fulfil the specified values given in Table 8 and the requirements given in clause 8.2.3;
5) for sleeve couplers with shear studs (SS), the requirements for the holes in the tubes in accordance with 8.2.4;
6) full details for sleeve couplers with a loose spigot;
e) clear statement that damaged couplers shall not be used;
f) instructions for maintenance, particularly for screw nut connection and bimetallic corrosion;
g) declaration of conformity with EN 74-2 made by the manufacturer.
