7.2. l Metals: All forms of aluminum, brass or stainless steel.
7.2.2 Other: Wood, plastics, stone, ceramics and other suitable materials.
7.3 Workmanship
7.3.1 The shape or design of the unit shall be produced to the individual manufacturer’s specifications.Joined parts shall be closely fitted.
7.3.2 Surfaces of the unit which meet or rest against the door surface shall fit firmly when fastened to the door according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
7.3.3 All sharp corners and edges shall be deburred.
7.3.4 Attachment screws or bolts shall be furnished with the unit. They shall be of a size compatible with the door thickness and provide secure mounting (See 7.5).
7.3.5 Templates shall be provided for the door manufacturer to permit the door to be prepared for the unit.
7.3.6 Flush or drop-ring pulls shall be mortised 7/8 in. (22.2 mm) maximum in the face of a door. The interior surface of the cup shall be smooth and with a finish compatible with the specified finish of the product. The opening of a flush pull shall be free of sharp edges.
7.3.7 Type J300 Push Plate Standards (See 6.) are applicable to all plates used to make pull plates J405 and J407 (See Figure 4).
7.3.8 Straight units shall have the normal push or pull locations in line with the centerline of the bases.
7.3.9 Offset pulls shall have the normal push or pull locations offset from the centerline of the bases.
7.3.10 Option: Set two units mounted on either side of the same door back to back (symbol BTB).Common fasteners are permitted to be used to attach the set to the door (BTB attachment) when design conditions permit.
7.4 Standard Pull Units
7.4.1 Door pulls are available in a variety of sizes and designs.Make reference to an individual manufacturer’s catalog.
When no specific manufacturer’s catalog number is specified, a TYPE J401 unormamented straight (see 7.3.8) pull made of 0.75 in. (19.1 mm) diameter solid bar stock with ends bent 90 degrees to form legs 5.5 in. (139.7 mm) minimum CTC and having a minimum finger clearance of 1.5 in.(38.1 mm) under the grip portion shall be the Standard Pull. This pull centered on a TYPE J30I plate (see 6.4.1) in material, finish and size as specified shall be the Standard Pull Plate.
7.5 Performance Tests
7.5.1 Push/Pull Test: A Unit shall withstand 200 lbf (890 N) midpoint between the outermost fasteners without breakage of the unit or fasteners under the following test conditions:
7.5.2 The test unit and fasteners provided with it shall be mounted according to the manufacturer’s instructions on a hard wood block a minimum of 1 3/4 in. (44.5 mm) thick and having a length and width a minimum of 6 in. (152.4 mm) greater than the CTC dimensions of the unit’s outermost fasteners. A 1 3/4 in. (44.5 mm) hollow-metal or solid-wood core door is permitted to be substituted for the oak block. (See Figure 6).
