4.26.1 Commentary: The accessories to be considered in Item (a) include racks for skis, bikes or other similar articles. The live load forces in Item (b) include the skis, bikes, snowboards and other items carried on by passengers, as well as the passengers themselves.
4.26.3.1 Commentary: Carriers that are not in permanent use do not experience the high cycle fatigue that normal carriers do, negating the need to withstand an endurance test. Carriers that are not in permanent use are typically designed with higher static safety factors because adding material or weight to a single carrier does not adversely affect the overall power or structural requirements of the ropeway. The number of endurance test cycles refers to the number of times that loads are applied and released or reduced, as the case may be.
4.26.5.3 Commentary: Typically, for this test, the grip is held stationary and a steel bar is inserted into the rope grip mouth. To test for prying resistance, a force is applied to one end of the bar only and the force required to remove the bar is noted. For the pluck test, equal forces are applied to each end of the steel bar protruding from the grip mouth. The total force required to remove the steel bar is noted as the plucking force.
4.26.8 Commentary: Prying relates to the application of a moment to the grip, which causes it to be removed from the haul rope. An excessive amount of dampening might be visualized by having a fixed connection between the hanger arm and grip. In practice, only a small number of installations have any type of sway dampers. One type has a friction washer between the mating faces of the hanger and the grip. This reduces the amplitude of swing (forwards and backwards).
