The sign enclosure shall incorporate the following features:
(a) Where a viewing window is provided for the display, it shall be of high impact, UV-resistant, polycarbonate material. The material thickness must be not less than that recommended by the material manufacturer and, in all cases, shall not be less than 4.5 mm. The adequacy of the strength of the polycarbonate material and the window-fixing method shall be supported by a data sheet from the material manufacturer showing the recommended material thickness for the application, based on the window size and window-fixing method compatible with that chosen by the sign manufacturer. Alternatively, testing by an approved test organization, or computer-aided finite element analysis by a qualified structural engineer acceptable to the sign purchaser shall be performed to certify that the maximum window material deflection under a load of 1500 N/m 2 is smaller than 35 mm. Where no viewing window is provided for the display, the panel on which the pixels are installed shall not deform from its design shape to an extent that the sign’s photometric performance is adversely affected under any of the required environmental operating conditions.
(b) The size of the viewing area shall be such that, when the sign is installed on its support structure, the side and bottom edges of the display face shall be fully visible at viewing angles of 45° (horizontal) and 30° (vertical) respectively to an axis perpendicular to the display face.
(c) Where access is required to all internal components of a sign for installation, inspection and maintenance purposes—lockable, sliding or hinged (left or right opening only, not top or bottom opening) door(s) shall be provided on the rear of the enclosure. The maximum horizontal width of each door opening shall be not greater than 1.2 m. Each door shall be provided with UV stable closed-cell door seals and fitted with fastener(s) operated by means of a security key approved by the sign purchaser. Door stays shall be provided to secure the doors in the open position.
(d) A suitable venting and air circulation system that is compatible with the LED display matrices. Air circulation shall include means to positively exclude dust, dirt and water from entering the sign enclosure. Air filters that require frequent servicing shall not be used.
(e) A moisture inhibitor and ventilation system that maintains a low relative humidity level inside the sign enclosure. Such system shall be capable of reducing the relative humidity inside the closed sign enclosure from 98% to not more than 30% within four hours at an ambient temperature of between 30°C and 35°C.
(f) A double-socket outlet complete with an integral 30 mA type II residual current device complying with AS/NZS 3190. The socket outlet shall be supplied and protected by a dedicated circuit-breaker in the sign controller’s housing. The socket outlet shall be mounted in an accessible position in the sign enclosure such that it provides for unobstructed insertion of mains power plug-packs, and operation of inserted mains power plug-packs with the doors of the sign enclosure closed.
