BS EN 1009-3:2020 pdf free download – Machines for mechanical processing of minerals and similar solid materials – Safety Part 3: Specific requirements for crushing and miling machinery.
4.4.2 Maintenance/inspection
The rotor of the crusher shall be lockable in any position, including in the event of a blockage, and protected against unexpected turning (e.g. gravity movement). Appropriate instructions shall be included in the instruction handbook, see 6.3.
NOTE 1 Locking the rotor with a pin only in a few positions is not safe.
In addition, if turning of the rotor is necessary for the maintenance (e.g. changing of wear parts, removal of blockages), the rotor shall be designed to be turned in a visible controlled manner from outside a danger zone.
For maintenance, a device (e.g. mechanical, hydraulic) shall be fitted in order to adjust the position of the rotor without manual intervention by the operator directly on the rotor and appropriate instructions shall be included in the instruction handbook, see 6.3.
During maintenance, upon releasing the control function, the rotor of the machine shall be designed to stop in a maximum of 3 s. For manual mechanical drive solutions, this stop time also applies as a requirement, not as a safety function.
NOTE 2 EN ISO 13855 provides guidance for speed of approach.
The design of the machine shall consider appropriate measures to prevent accidental closure of the housing when opened for maintenance (e.g. position stable by design, mechanical/hydraulic restraint devices).
Design of the machine shall include the possibility to exchange wear parts in safe conditions (e.g. providing handling mechanism, tools, means of access and space for human passage).
The sub-assembly shall be fitted with means of access to the various setting devices.
During maintenance, the maximum rotor peripheral speed shall be 100 mm/s and the performance level required shall be as specified in EN 1009-1:2020, Table 2.For manual mechanical drive solutions, this speed also applies as a requirement, not as a safety function.
4.5 Roil crushers
4.5.1 Machine under rotation
In case double roll crushers are equipped with an overload protection system, a guard complying with EN 1009-1:2020, 4.11 shall be installed in the area where the roller and connected equipment can move in reaction to an overload. For remaining hazards, appropriate warning signs shall be provided, and corresponding instruction shall be provided in the information for use, see 6.3.
The design of the machine shall consider the need for access in view of the safe cleaning of the roll scraper devices and re-adjustment of the scraper lips.
Means shall be fitted, e.g. chain and rubber curtains in the inlet and outlet of the crusher or the crusher shall be closed and incorporated in order to minimize the risk of ejection of material.
No access to the rolls shall be possible until the rolls have stopped rotating. The rolls of the crusher shall be lockable in any position.
Opening of the crusher, including in the event of a blockage, shall only be possible if the rolls are locked.
This applies to the use of devices, which are provided to open the crusher housing, e.g. hydraulic opening systems.
If a crusher is overloaded, the material has to be removed. After removing the material the rolls turns. It is not sufficient to safeguard the rolls with a pin only in a few positions. The safeguarding should be also possible when the rolls are overloaded.
