5 Verification of safety requirements and/or protective/risk reduction measures
Safety requirements and/or protective/risk reduction measures of Clause 4 of this document shall be verified according to Table 2.
a) Calculation: the results of which being to establish that the requirements of this document have been met;
b) visual verification: the result of which only being to establish that something is present (e.g. a guard, a marking, a document);
c) measurement: the result of which:
1) shows that the required numerical values have been met (e.g. geometric dimensions, safety distances, resistance of insulation of the electric circuits);
2) provides values for noise emission and vibration declaration purposes;
d) functional tests: the result of which shows that the adequate signals intended to be forwarded to the main control system of the complete machine are available and comply with the requirements and with the technical documentation;
e) special verification: the procedure being given or in the referred clause.
— the symbol “Refer to instruction manual” (see Figure E.1);
— symbol(s) indicating that personal protection equipment (PPE) is necessary (see Annex E).
Control devices shall be identified with symbols or pictograms without ambiguity.
The following warning signs shall be put on the machine to inform the machine user about residual risks:
— caution of the risk of cutting;
— warning about other residual risks (e.g. hot surfaces, shearing, do not use indoors).
All text can be replaced by symbols or pictograms (see Annex E).
6.3 Accompanying documents
6.3.1 Instruction handbook
The manufacturer shall provide an instruction handbook in accordance with EN ISO 12100:2010, 6.4.5, and in addition the following:
6.3.2 Description of the machine
The description of the machine shall contain at least the following items:
— a general description of the machine with sketches;
— an explanation of pictograms and symbols used on the machine and in the documentation;
— a list of specific cutting-off wheels to be used, with their nominal characteristics and the advice that the use of all other types of wheels or tool (such as for example circular saw blades) which are not indicated in the list is not allowed;
— direction of rotation of tool (indicated by an arrow on the guard);
— maximum diameter of the new tool and bore diameter of the tool which can be fitted to the machine;
— a list of materials which can be cut-off by the machine;
— information on noise emission values of the machine determined in accordance with Annex B;
— information concerning the fuel if relevant and all other fluids to be used.
NOTE Information on hand-arm vibration is not required, see 4.10.
The user shall be warned of the following:
— noise emission and vibration values obtained using this document are only valid for the operating and mounting conditions specified in this document. Other operating and mounting conditions e.g. cutting-off wheels, material being cut, and the way the operator uses the machine may result in an increase of noise and vibration emissions. Emission values obtained using this document are useful for comparing machines and are not exposure levels;
— factors that influence the actual level of noise exposure are the characteristics of the work environment, other adjacent sources of noise in operation and the exposure time;
— factors that influence the actual level of vibration exposure are the exposure time and the condition of the machine.
