BS EN 15328:2020 pdf free download – Railway applications一Braking 一 Brake pads.
H.1 Test requirements
It is recommended that the in-service test assessment covers all climate conditions that the brake pad would be exposed to during its use.
The assessment should confirm that the brake pad under consideration corresponds with the conditions of use indicated in the application for certification, does not cause damage to the brake disc or cause any adverse effect to the mechanical integrity of the brake pad assembly or introduce any unforeseen operational problems. Brake pad and brake disc wear should be monitored during this assessment. The duration of this service assessment should be a minimum of 12 months.
For passenger trains, the test should be performed on the brake discs of at least 10 wheelsets, distributed over at least two different trains.
The brake discs should preferably be of the category for which brake pad certification is sought. The test should be pet-formed over a mileage, cumulated over the wheelsets, of at least 1 000 000 km for short distance traffic and at least 2 000 000 km for long distance traffic
For freight traffic, the in-service tests should follow the principles set out in EN 16452. The assessment should consist of an initial investigation, a final investigation and at least two intermediate investigations.
Definition of inspections and additional measures is given in Table H.1.
H.3 Thermal requirements
The shape, number and arrangement of the rubbing parts on the carrier plate should be designed to achieve a most uniform temperature distribution in the brake disc.
During in-service assessment, the following should not occur:
— flames;
— blow-outs or exfoliation over an area of more than 10 % of the brake pad surface;
— any damage jeopardizing the mechanical strength of the brake pad, leading to significant material deposits on the brake disc or creating unusual levels of wear.
During the in-service test, the frictional material should not cause any damage on the brake disc exceeding the tolerable limits described in the brake disc maintenance manual (e.g. burn marks and thermally initiated cracks, which can lead to the fracture of the brake disc). Also the adjacent rubbing surface should not be attacked. Metallic inclusions are acceptable unless they cause abnormal wear to the brake disc surface (visible grooves).
This European Standard has been prepared under a Commission’s standardization request M/483 to provide one voluntary means of conforming to the essential requirements of Directive 2016/797/EU on the interoperability of the rail system (recast) and with the associated TSIs.
Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union under that Directive 2016/797/EU, compliance with the normative clauses of this standard given in Table ZA.1 for freight wagons, and Table ZA.2 for locomotive and passenger RST, confers within the limits of the scope of this standard, a presumption of conformity with the corresponding Essential Requirements of that Directive and associated EFTA regulations and with the TSI requirements.
