BS EN 17092-4:2020 pdf free download – Protective garments for motorcycle riders Part 4: Class A garments – Requirements.
For impact abrasion testing, removable impact protectors shall be removed prior to testing.
Where externally exposed permanent hard shell impact protectors that are part of the SSL meet all the requirements according to Table 1 (including the requirement for protection area coverage) the assessment of the abrasion resistance of the permanent hard shell protectors only, is not required.
For areas of any Zone with rigid or semi-rigid external reinforcements that are attached to the SSL as inserts or overlays, the reinforced areas are not subject to abrasion testing. For rigid or semi-rigid external reinforcements that are a part of the SSL, if it is not possible to attach the rigid or semi-rigid external reinforcements to the impact abrasion testing apparatus according to the standard procedure, they are not subject to abrasion testing.
If it is not possible to perform the abrasion test using samples of the SSL (e.g. due to the incorporation of an impact protection material); testing of representative samples of the SSL material or materials, that cover the external surface of the impact protection material is permitted.
4.4 Structurally strong seams
4.4.1 General
SSS in the SSL, which are on the exterior of the garment in Zone 1 and 2 (determined according to the procedure described in EN 17092-1:2020, 5.2) shall have at least one line of the stitching protected by an SSL material.
Leather or textile abrasion overlays and reinforcements sewn onto the SSL shall have at least two rows of stitching attaching them to the SSL but are not required to have at least one line of stitching protected.
External rigid or semi-rigid reinforcements sewn into (“window stitched”) or onto the SSL shall have at least two rows of stitching attaching them to the SSL but are not required to have at least one line of stitching protected.
4.4.2 Seam strength
The strength of the SSS of garments, in the various zones, as determined according to the procedure described in EN 17092-1:2020, 5.2 shall meet the requirements given in Table 3.
Three test pieces of each seam or joint type, including all layers of materials of the garment that are present in the seam or joint, shall be tested according to the test procedure in EN 13594:20 15 Annex B. Each type of seam or joint between materials forming the SSL shall be tested. The seam strength shall be calculated by dividing the breaking force by the length of the tested seam. The calculated value of each specimen of each seam type shall meet the minimum requirements given in Table 3.
Where a seam joins the materials of two zones, the seam is subject to the higher of the two zone requirements, if applicable.
